Protection Services Engineer

Permanent, full-time role.
£50k+ base salary DOE, company vehicle, benefits and target related bonus scheme.

Responsibilities to include but not limited to:

  • Factory Acceptance Testing including National Grid Type Registration
  • Site Acceptance Testing of Protection & Control Systems
  • Protection Maintenance
  • Protection Replacements
  • Fault Investigations
  • Client Representation
  • Proving on-call response for our Protection & Control Service Level Agreement

Minimum requirements:

  • Right to work and live in the UK
  • BEng in Electrical Engineering
  • Expert in Protection and Control systems
  • Expert in the use of Omicron CMC Secondary Injection Test Set
  • HV Substation Commissioning Experience
  • Excellent communication skills

Commissioning Technician

Permanent, full-time role.
£40k base salary, company vehicle, benefits and target related bonus scheme.

You will enter our structured and comprehensive training programme at an advanced stage, determined by a technical assessment prior to joining, culminating in nomination to National Grid’s Commissioning Authorisation assessment, widely regarded as the highest benchmark for Commissioning within the industry.

Responsibilities to include but not limited to:

  • Assisting the team with all aspects of substation commissioning
  • Participating in various safety and technical training courses
  • Represent the company in a professional manner
 

Minimum requirements:

  • 3+ years relevant Substation Commissioning experience

DARREN EDMUNDS

BUSINESS MANGER

Darren is the Business Manager for DAGEM Power, responsible for strategic direction, growth and performance of the business team function.

Upon joining DAGEM Power, Darren oversaw the transition of the company’s financial management to a more transparent and scalable system with the implementation of cloud accounting software and managed all the challenges involved in such a change.

Darren has been integral to the implementation of various systems and procedures across different units of DAGEM’s business function, ranging from expense management to the development of workflows for increased automation and efficiency.

In his spare time, Darren is a big rugby aficionado who has represented Malta at rugby union and rugby league.

ROY CAMPBELL

SHESQ MANAGER

Roy started his career in 2006, working for National Grid as a Trainee Substation Engineer, after successful completion of this training programme and achieving his NEBOSH Certificate in Occupational Health and Safety, he obtained his National Grid Senior Authorised Person (SAP HV/LV/Mech) Authorisation in 2010. Commissioning Training then followed, achieving his TP141 Basic Authorisation in 2017 followed by TP141 Advanced Authorisation in 2019.

 

He has since worked across a range of Transmission and Distribution voltages from 400kV to 11kV, on equipment from all the major suppliers to the UK T&D networks and gained experience on a broad range of protection relays, switchgear, wound plant, reactive compensation and test equipment. 

Roy has led the commissioning on several asset replacement projects in the UK, including Supergrid Transformers, Shunt Reactors, Protection Relays and all Associated Switchgear on Double Bus and Mesh Corner Substations. He has delivered various training courses on Health and Safety, Protection and Switchgear Commissioning for DAGEM and National Grid staff.

During Roy’s time at National Grid he was a member of a Working Group tasked with the design and implementation of National Grid’s current Electronic RAMS and Safety Documents from Design, through to testing and implementation. As the Single Point of contact for the South West of England and South Wales he was influential in developing and delivering the training for the implementation of this system.

Roy is very passionate about Health and Safety and training. He has a thorough understanding of National Grid Procedures and Processes, and delivers various large projects in accordance with TP106. 

DAVID SHAMMAS

DIRECTOR,
PROTECTION & CONTROL SERVICES MANAGER

David is a highly motivated, diligent and fastidious Engineer, with 15+ years experience in the design, construction and commissioning of high voltage substations.

With a Masters in Electrical Engineering, David has held multiple lead roles across some of the UKs largest electrical infrastructure projects. Specialising in protection systems, from panel build to relay setting and configuration, Factory Acceptance Testing through to onsite Commissioning and preventative maintenance, David is an expert in the use of Omicron secondary injection test sets and has a wide range of experience across all vendors protection products.

David is responsible for leading Renewables business growth while managing DAGEM’s team of Protection & Control Specialists to deliver a wide range of services including National Grid Type Registration, Factory Acceptance Testing, site works (both onshore and offshore) ranging from Site Acceptance Testing, Protection Maintenance, Protection Replacements, Fault Investigations and Client Representation, in addition to the management and delivery of Service Level and Framework agreements.

Passionate about the training, development and mentorship of the next generation of Engineers, David founded and oversees the DAGEM Graduate Scheme and Power Academy programmes. David has established an Enterprise Partnership with the Institute of Engineering & Technology and acts as scheme representative to provide a pathway for DAGEM Engineers to achieve Professional Registration. Furthermore, David has registered DAGEM Power as a STEM Ambassador Employer with the Staffordshire STEM HUB, Entrust, acting as company STEM Champion while actively participating in numerous STEM activities. David sits on multiple Industrial Advisory Boards, helping to shape and inspire the next generation of Engineers as we work towards delivering the UK’s Net Zero targets.

DAVID MESSRUTHER

MANAGING DIRECTOR,
COMMISSIONING MANAGER

David started commissioning on National Grid substations in 2008 and obtained National Grid TP141 Authorisation in 2012 and TP141 Advanced Authorisation in 2019.

 

He has since worked across a range of Transmission and Distribution voltages from 400kV to 11kV, on equipment from all the major suppliers to the UK T&D networks, both onshore and offshore and gained experience on a broad range of protection relays, switchgear, wound plant, reactive compensation and test equipment. He has delivered numerous FAT’s for various protection relay manufacturer’s including delivering the National Grid Type Registration FAT’s for both ABB and Mitsubishi’s Centralised Busbar Protection Solutions.

David has led the commissioning on several windfarms in the UK, including the Onshore Commissioning Manager role for Hornsea 2 Offshore Windfarm (the world’s largest offshore windfarm when operational) on behalf of Hitachi-ABB Power Grids UK. He has developed and delivered various training courses on Protection and Switchgear Commissioning on behalf of our clients, including for National Grid staff.

David founded DAGEM Power in 2014 and has developed an unrivalled training and monitoring programme, including courses delivered by ex-National Grid senior policy advisors, tailored to DAGEM Power’s requirements, to ensure DAGEM Power Engineers are the most highly trained and experienced Engineers in the industry.

David has a passion for software development and automation and has developed a Commissioning Management System that allows automated project monitoring and reporting, ensuring all DAGEM Power projects are consistently delivered to the same high standard and giving clients unparalleled visibility over their projects.
